Serving as this year’s Grand Marshal is Rufus Parnell "Parnelli" Jones, celebrated American racing driver and racecar owner, who is best remembered for his Indianapolis 500 win in 1963, and for almost winning the Indy 500 in a turbine car in 1967. He also owned Parnelli Jones Inc., which operated 47 retail Parnelli Jones Tire Centers in four states.

Loren and Craig DeRoy, recently named Citizens of the Year by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, will serve as the Community Grand Marshals.

To showcase the unique character of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, community and civic groups, school and youth organizations, marching bands, drill teams, equestrian units, local businesses, and others are encouraged to participate in the parade. Applications are due to the City of Rolling Hills Estates by November 23. There is no entry fee.

Awards will be given in four categories: Sweepstakes (Musical), Equestrian Sweepstakes, Best Commercial Float, and Mayor’s Trophy for the best local entry. Judging will be provided by the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association and a professional equestrian judge.

Children between the ages of 4-7 are invited to enter the Ride with Santa contest sponsored by the Promenade
on the Peninsula. Two lucky winners will get an opportunity to ride on a special parade float with Santa Claus. Entry forms will be available at the Promenade in November.

Local businesses and community organizations interested in creative methods of promotion may want to consider becoming a sponsor of a parade unit, or, better yet, join in on the parade fun by decorating a commercial vehicle and entering it as a parade unit! Awards will be given to the business with the best parade unity entry. The holiday parade brings thousands of spectators and participants to the City’s commercial district, and receives extensive local press coverage. Cox Communications will once again provide a live cable broadcast of the event and televise repeat footage on Channel 35 throughout the month of December.

To request a parade entry application, or to become a parade sponsor, please contact Pageantry Productions at (310)537-4240, or Andy Clark, Rolling Hills Estates Community Services Director, at (310) 377-1577, ext.109 or AndyC@ci.Rolling-Hills-Estates.ca.us.
