Two Suspects Released in Redondo Beach Fatal Shooting: Two people arrested in the slaying of a man in Redondo Beach were released from custody Tuesday because charges were not filed within 48 hours, but investigators still believe they were involved in the crime, along with a third suspect who remains at large, a police captain said.- RELATED: Police: Arrests Made in Fatal Redondo Beach Shooting

What Will the Revitalized Redondo Waterfront Look Like?: After eight public workshops and months of planning, CenterCal Properties and the city of Redondo Beach have unveiled a series of preliminary visions for the Redondo Beach waterfront. The El Segundo-based developer's revitalization effort, expected to cost upwards of $300 million, will cover the Redondo Beach Pier, Pier Plaza, International Boardwalk and Redondo Beach Marina.
Council Approves New Community Alert System: The Redondo Beach Police Department will soon have a new way to reach out to residents: Nixle. The online alert system—already in use locally by the multiple agencies—will allow the department to notify community members of traffic accidents, community events and more via text message and email.
Manhattan Beach
Dog Kills Cat, Injures Man; Police Intervene: A 72-year-old man taking his son's pit bull for a walk was attacked by the dog Monday afternoon around 4:20 p.m., said Stephanie Martin, public information and crime prevention officer for the Manhattan Beach Police Department. Police later intervened and eventually had to kill the dog with a Taser.Transformers Explode, Power Knocked Out to 5,500: A reported 5,500 homes and businesses were without power Thursday night in Manhattan Beach, said City Manager David Carmany at around 10:10 p.m. A transformer at Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Ardmore Avenue is believed to have caused the outage, he said. Another transformer above The Strand House also exploded at around 9 p.m.
Planned Prolonged Power Outage Impacts Residents; More Outages to Come: Some 1,700 Southern California Edison customers were without power for nearly 19 hours during a pre-planned power outage Wednesday that took longer than originally projected. The affected customers who were without power from about 10 a.m. Wednesday until 4:20 a.m. Thursday were mostly Manhattan Beach residents, said Scott Gobble of SCE.
Manhattan Beach Throat Slasher Sentenced to 40 Years to Life: A 19-year-old man was sentenced Wednesday to 40 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole for slashing a clerk's throat during a robbery at a Manhattan Beach cigar store last summer.
Hermosa Beach
Police Gear Up for Fourth of July Crowds in Hermosa: Drinking alcohol in public in Hermosa Beach on July 4 will be more costly this year thanks to a no tolerance policy put in place by police and city officials. Those caught drinking in public from July 1 through 7 will be assessed triple the usual fine, said Interim Police Chief Michael McCrary. His department is tripling its law enforcement workforce on the Fourth, as well.City Gears Up to Collect Delinquent Trash Bills: If you're among the 77 delinquent refuse bill payers in Hermosa Beach, you might want to pay up before the amount due shows up on your property tax with $49 added to it.
Service Set for Mary Lou Weiss, Hermosa Farmers Market Founder: A memorial service for Mary Lou Weiss, 75, who died in her Hermosa Beach home Saturday, will be held Sunday, June 30 at 5 p.m. at Rice Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance. Weiss reportedly died of a heart attack. Known for starting the Hermosa Beach Farmers Market in 1990, Weiss became well-known throughout the South Bay for her farmers market work.
Soccer Star Wambach Breaks Hamm's Goal Record: Hermosa Beach resident and soccer star Abby Wambach broke Mia Hamm's all-time international scoring record of 158 goals on June 20th against Korea Republic. Wambach scored goals 159 and 160 as the U.S. women beat Korea 5-0 in Red Bull Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.
Palos Verdes
Local Chapel Celebrates Same Sex Marriage: With the Supreme Court's recent rulings on Proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act, same-sex marriage will soon be legal in California—and at least one local business is celebrating the decisions. Wayfarers Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes is now offering a 30 percent discount for all same-sex marriage ceremonies booked during July.Rolling Hills Mansion on the Market for $53M: There's more to one Rolling Hills home that meets the eye. Though the property appears to be a one-story ranch house—as is fairly standard in the gated city—the nearly 50,000-square-foot mansion has five stories underground, according to a feature in the Los Angeles Times.
Three Cited in Unlicensed Contractor Sting: Less than two months after a previous sting netted eight allegedly unlicensed contractors, a second sting last week at the same location in Rolling Hills Estates netted three more contractors, according to a news release from the California State Licensing Board.
