SCE to Use Helicopter to Replace RPV Power Poles

The new poles will be installed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Southern California Edison will use a helicopter to replace four utility poles in the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve and in a Rancho Palos Verdes neighborhood Tuesday, according to an alert from RPV city staff.

The work will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The poles will be placed in the lower Portuguese Bend Reserve near Klondike Canyon and in the Sea View neighborhood off Admirable Drive.

"Due to the limited access to the utility pole locations, a helicopter will be used to remove the existing poles and install new poles," according to RPV staff. "The equipment and helicopter staging area will be located at the upper portion of Gateway Park outside of the Preserve."

Certain trails through Gateway Park and the surrounding area will be closed intermittently throughout the day, according to city staff. Additionally, drivers should expect minor traffic delays on Palos Verdes Drive South between Schooner Drive and Gateway Park as traffic on Palos Verdes Drive South will be intermittently stopped when the helicopter is operating close to the street.
