Photos: Friends Unveil Annamay's Trail

The trail is named for Annamay Naef, a Palos Verdes Peninsula High School student who died in a car crash Oct. 5, 2011.

About two dozen people gathered at Rockbluff Park on Friday evening to celebrate the life of Annamay Naef—a 16-year-old Rolling Hills Estates resident who was killed in a car crash Oct. 5, 2011—and unveil new trailhead markers in her honor.

Annamay's Trail, formerly known as Rockbluff Trail, leads up to the Naef home and was renamed at the request of neighbor and cubmaster George Brunn.

"It just made sense all the way around," Brunn said. "This is where she started her trail rides."

Cat Spydell, who organized the vigil, remembered Annamay as a great friend to her daughter.

"They used to pretend to be each other" to fool teachers at school, Spydell said. But once they discovered horses, "it was the most beautiful time of their lives, riding together."

Annamay was well-known in the equestrian community; she competed in many local gymkhanas with her horse Tango, a pinto draft horse.

what a lovely idea and good way for Annanay's friends to honor her memory. And it must mean so much to her parents knowing that she is forever in their hearts.
