Murrieta Community Cleanup is Nov. 17

Bring your excess trash, junk and debris between 8 a.m. and noon Saturday, Nov. 17.

The city of Murrieta and Waste Management are hosting a Community Cleanup from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 17.

This free event is open to all Murrieta residents and city employees. Residents and employees can bring all of their bulky waste items—except household hazardous waste—to the corner of 2nd and Kalmia Street and dispose of them for free.

A document shredding company will also be on hand to provide confidential, secure shredding.

Additionally, for those who participate, a community barbecue will take place starting at noon at Meadowridge Park on Hancock Avenue. The barbecue is being sponsored by the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve/Santa Margarita Watershed.

Murrieta fire Chief Matt Shobert said the cleanup is a great opportunity for Murrieta residents to make their homes more safe and less vulnerable to vegetation wildfires.

"Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to clean up the hazardous vegetation around their homes," Shobert said.

"We, as fire service professionals, like to see a 100-foot buffer around homes in areas with lots of vegetation," he said.

"This program gives people a manner to dispose of their green waste. All too often, I hear that people don’t know what to do with their green waste, once they clean up their properties; this is a tremendous opportunity."

See the attached pdf for a detailed list of items that will be accepted during the cleanup.
