Peninsula Boys JV Begins Bay League with a Loss at Redondo

On Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 PM the Peninsula Panthers began the 2014 Bay League schedule with a contest against defending Bay League Champion Redondo Union. The Panthers jumped out to a quick lead of 12-8 at the end of the first quarter and then the Panthers went ice cold from the field. They missed lay-ups, short jumpers and long range ones as well. The Panthers could only muster a total of 3 points  in the Second quarter and they surrendered the lead and trailed 19-15 at the end of the half. The Panthers offensive woes continued on through the third quarter with a number of missed uncontested shots, forced shots, and lack of rebounding on both ends of the court. The third quarter ended with the Panthers trailing 31-24. The lead ballooned up to 12 points in the early part of the fourth quarter when  the Panthers began increasing the defensive pressure they are known for. They forced Redondo into numerous unforced errors and managed to claw their way back to within three points. The Panthers could get no closer and after some missed lay-ups, foul shots and costly turnovers and missed defensive assignments the Panthers lost 49-43. The Panthers are a relatively young team and they tend to defeat themselves with poor shot selection and ill timed turnovers. The Panthers next opponent is Leuzinger HS this Friday, 1-17-14 at Peninsula HS.
