Chinese-Americans for PEF Group Raises $150,000 for PVP Schools

Chinese-Americans for PEF, made up of 70 donors, raised $150,000 last school year for the Peninsula Education Foundation.  “We saw that Chinese-American groups in other prestigious school districts were making a large donation as a group, and I thought the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chinese-American community would respond generously too,” said Linda Sun, Peninsula Education Foundation trustee and chair of the Chinese-Americans for PEF committee.  The group surpassed last year’s total of $100,000.

Chinese-Americans for PEF is a giving circle founded by Chinese-American parents and other community supporters who believe strongly that supporting the Peninsula Education Foundation is an important way they can assure an outstanding education for their children.    In order to spread the word about this giving opportunity, representatives from the Peninsula Education Foundation and Chinese-Americans for PEF spoke at numerous Chinese-American parents’ meetings throughout the school year.    “We welcome inquiries from any other group that may want to do something similar,” said PEF executive director Andrea Sala.

Donations to the Peninsula Education Foundation maintain key programs and school staff including the elementary schools’ music program, library and media aides, P.E. teachers, Safe School Counselors, academic and College and Career Center counselors, and engineering and robotics programs at the intermediate and high schools.  In addition, donations to PEF provide for teaching positions across all school levels to keep class sizes smaller than would otherwise be possible with state funding alone.
