Revolution Ranked as
“Superior, Nominated for Highest Award.”
San Pedro, California------February 14, 2013------ The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) recently published their list of the best literary magazines in the country and ranked the Rolling Hills Prep (RHP) magazine Revolution, as “Superior, Nominated for Highest Award.”
RHP has the distinction of including contributions from middle-schoolers in their literary magazine. Virtuallyall the other magazines recognized by the NCTE included only high school writers. The nationally recognized students give credit to their English and art teachers for guidance and inspiration while the teachers point the acknowledgement back to the students. Faculty advisor Rebecca Kandel-Scott and chief student editor Vivian Lee ’13 were identified as well as numerous other contributors.
Head of School Peter McCormack stated: “I often speak about the 21st century education model we have developed and implemented on this campus: the Five Cs of Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Character. Putting together a prize-winning student publication requires employing all five of these characteristics.”
For over 30 years the RHP educators have heard back from graduates that they are the best writers in their college classes. RHP believes that, under the “Communication” heading, good writing provides one of the clearest indicators of a highly-educated person. Rolling Hills Prep intends to continue preparing the nation’s very best writers and communicators in our classes for a long time to come.
