Due to the rainy forecast, the barbeque has been rescheduled to for Sunday, March 25th, 2:30-5:00pm. Peninsula High School’s first ever traditional Argentine barbeque fundraiser is being held at Peninsula High School. It is being sponsored by the Spanish Honor Society, an academic honor society who promotes a continuity of interest in Spanish studies. The proceeds will go to help the Spanish department obtain materials to further enrich the curriculum.
The Spanish department aims to teach its students about the many diverse facets of the Hispanic culture. There is no denying that one of the many ways to explore a culture is through its food. The foods we eat, how we prepare them, and who we share them with is a portrayal of our culture. This holds true for the traditional Argentine barbeque, known as an asado. The asado, however, is more than just a meal. In addition to being a tradition that dates back to the gauchos, it is a symbol of friendship and the coming together of families and friends to share a meal and spend time together as we cultivate those relationships.
Peninsula High School would like to extend the invitation to the community. The ticket prices are $25.00 per person age 11+ and $10.00 for ages 5-10 (children 4 and under are free) for an ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT buffet of flank steak and beef ribs roasted on a stake, and grilled chicken and sausage. Sides will include mixed green salad, potato salad, bread, and chimichurri (parsley and garlic marinade). Non-alcoholic drinks will be sold separately. There will also be a folklore performance at 4:30pm. TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE through the 20th at the front office from 7:30am to 4:00pm. Exact change is required. Please make checks payable to “PVPHS – Spanish Honors Society”. Please note, tickets WILL NOT be sold at the door, so please purchase your tickets before the deadline.
