In the CyberPatriot IV National Finals on March 23, 2012, the Palos Verdes Peninsula High School CyberPanthers won third place in the Open Division competition. CyberPatriot is a national competition for cyber security sponsored by the Air Force Association and Northrop Grumman. In order to reach the final round, held in Washington D.C. during the CyberFutures conference, teams must advance through three preliminary rounds. Only 12 teams from each division are taken on the all-expense-paid trip. Led by coach Hassan Twiet, the CyberPanthers team that traveled to the final round consists of six dedicated Peninsula students: Miolani Grenier, Nick Entin, Patrick Lowe, Max Stritzinger,Justin Boisvert, and Russell Wakugawa. Each student on the team received a $1000 scholarship from Northrop Gumman. The team is very proud of this accomplishment and would like to thank their coach, Hassan Twiet; mentor, Greg Grenier; the Peninsula Education Foundation; V3 Gaming; and all of the CyberPatriot sponsors for making the competition possible. For next year's CyberPatriot V competition, the team is looking for new members for both the CyberPanthers 1 team who went to the finals and the CyberPanthers 2 team who were eliminated in Round 3. The team will hold tryouts later this year for anyone interested. More information regarding the tryouts will be available soon.
