A Record-setting number of gifts were wrapped at Be a Santa to a Senior Party

Nearly 100 volunteers wrapped 835 gifts at the Be a Santa to a Senior gift-wrapping party held on Monday, December 19 at the Spectrum Athletic Club in El Segundo.

A DJ and members of Girl Scout Troop 5865 from Redondo Beach entertained the dedicated volunteers that included parents and their children, grandparents, folks from local businesses, churches, and others, all wanting to lend a hand.

Now in its 8th year, Be a Santa to a Senior is sponsored by the Home Instead Senior Care office in Torrance and provides holiday gifts and visits to socially isolated and low-income South Bay Seniors, who might otherwise not receive them.

“We collected a record number of gifts this year and are so grateful to everyone who participated in the program,” says Farrah Benedict, General Manager of Home Instead Senior Care. “I think people instinctively understood that the current economy has created an even greater need for just the basics and they donated whatever they could.”

Providing non-medical in-home care services for seniors, Home Instead Senior Care partnered with South Bay nonprofit organizations, businesses and residents, making Be a Santa to a Senior a program that brought a community together to help older adults who are in need.
