Skatepark PV Founder Discusses Need for Place to Skate

Ellen November is interviewed on Internet radio talk show South Bay Small Business Hour about her efforts to bring a skate park to The Hill.

When Rancho Palos Verdes resident Ellen November saw kids skateboarding in a public parking garage years ago, she wondered if the makeshift skate park was the best The Hill could do for its young skaters.

She told Internet radio talk show hosts Joe Terry and Jackie Balestra on Thursday's South Bay Small Business Hour that her journey to bring a skate park to Palos Verdes began there with a realization that local communities should provide a safe space for skaters.

Since then, November has been a vocal supporter of bringing a skate park to the Peninsula and created nonprofit Skatepark PV to rally support for the park among residents.

November said during Thursday's interview that there are more than 3,000 skaters on The Hill and "they're not going to stop skating."

"I wouldn't want my young skater skating in the street," she said. "It's not safe."

Rancho Palos Verdes is currently working with consultant Mia Lehrer & Associates to look into location possibilities and analysis for both skate and dog parks. City officials plan to schedule workshops to gather feedback on the parks from the community.

An was held in November at Zask Gallery.
