RHE Organizing Cleanup for Public Lands Day

Volunteers can help clear invasive plant species from the George F. Canyon Nature Center and Preserve on Saturday.

Palos Verdes residents can celebrate the 18th annual National Public Lands Day by helping to clear invasive plant species from a local preserve on Saturday.

Volunteers will gather between 9 a.m. and noon at the George F. Canyon Nature Center and Preserve, 27305 Palos Verdes Dr. East in Rolling Hills Estates to work on the preserve.

More than 180,000 volunteers are expected at more than 2,000 sites across the country on Saturday to take part in the volunteer effort for public lands, according to an event press release. They will work in parks, beaches, wildlife preserves and forests.

Across the country, eight federal agencies will participate along with more than 250 state, county, and city partners, including nonprofit groups like the Boy Scouts of America, The Girl Scouts of the USA, Student Conservation Association and The Corps Network.
