Poll: Should Palos Verdes Have a Bike Sharing Program?

Bike rental kiosks will be installed in various L.A. cities by the end of the year. Should Palos Verdes have its own bike sharing program? Take our poll below.

Bikers in some Los Angeles cities will soon have easier access to the two-wheel rides with the start of a bike sharing program set to kick off by the end of the year.

Bike Nation, a bicycle share company, plans to install public, solar-powered bike rental kiosks in Venice, downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, Playa del Rey and Westwood. The bikes can be rented by the hour or for longer periods of time.

“Bike share programs have proven successful in urban areas around the world and in major cities in the United States,” said Navin Narang, founder Bike Nation. “We are excited to work with the City of Los Angeles to implement this demonstration project and provide healthy, low-cost transit options and connectivity between transit connections, business centers and regional destinations.”

Bike Nation expects to grow the L.A. program over the next 10 years.

Programs like this one already exist in cities across the country and in Europe. Chicago's City Council recently approved a plan that will add thousands of bikes to rent from stations across the city.
