Bay League Players Earn Postseason Honors

Athletes from Mira Costa, Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Peninsula and Redondo Union high schools are picked for the All-Bay League teams.

Coaches have selected their All-Bay League teams for the 2011 fall sports season.

In girls volleyball, junior setter Corie Bain of has been named Most Valuable Player, senior libero Tiffany Morales is the Most Outstanding Player, and senior libero Kenedy McGrath of is the Best Defensive Player.

Rounding out the All-League first team are outside hitters Maddie Klineman and Grace Campbell of Mira Costa, outside hitters Skylar Dykstra and Sade Mendez of Redondo Union, setter Kelly Johnson and middle blocker Kate Gidden of Palos Verdes, and outside hitter Nicole Kerhof of .

The All-League second team consists of right side hitter Lexi Millington and libero Katie Warshaw of Mira Costa, middle blocker Hannah Moseber of Redondo Union, outside hitters Sam Rummans and Hannah Rue of Palos Verdes, libero Alexis Clay of Peninsula and middle blocker Rachel Barker of West Torrance.

In football, Palos Verdes senior quarterback Zack Fixen was selected as the Bay League Most Valuable Player, West Torrance junior quarterback Joey Notch was named Offensive Player of the Year, and Redondo Union senior linebacker Ryan Spiwak was picked Defensive Player of the Year.

Rounding out the All-Bay League first team offense are linemen Joey Augello of Peninsula, Andrew Bucklin of Palos Verdes, Koa Long of Palos Verdes and Cory Sanicky of Mira Costa; running backs Trent Owens of Redondo Union, Brandon Edmond of Mira Costa, Okuoma Idah of Peninsula and Carl Aguirre of Palos Verdes; wide receivers Robby Kolanz, Hunter Bradshaw of Redondo and Nicky Roos of West Torrance and tight end Matt Costa of Palos Verdes.

The second team consists of linemen Mo Faqhi of West Torrance, Ryan Daly of Mira Costa, Robert Barbee of Leuzinger, Max McHugh of Peninsula and Richard Sparks of Mira Costa; running backs Anthony Philyaw of Redondo Union and Devin Christy of Leuzinger; quarterback Harrison Faecher of Redondo Union; wide receiver Raphael Lawson-Gayle of Mira Costa; tight end Steven Vaughan of Redondo Union; lineman Parker Allison of Palos Verdes and Peninsula kicker Tony Bumata.  

Rounding out the All-Bay League first team defense are linemen Patrick Scoggins of Palos Verdes, Sam Ben-Armor of Redondo Union, Matt Boesen of West Torrance and Quinn Goldman of Mira Costa; linebackers Chad Mensinger of Palos Verdes, Tommy Webster of Peninsula, Brandon Kim of Redondo Union and Chris Kneepk of West Torrance; and defensive backs Trey Tamura of Mira Costa, Zach Henkhaus and Matt Lopes of Palos Verdes, Erik Brown of Redondo Union and Matt Hezlep of Peninsula.

The second team consists of linemen Raymond Lima of West Torrance, Andrew Aranda of Palos Verdes and Chris Whitehead of Peninsula; punter Brandon Canky of Peninsula; linebackers Josh Qerbash and Brett Gerten of Mira Costa, Jake Macer of Palos Verdes and Winner Watts of Leuzinger; defensive backs Sam Choi of West Torrance, Courtney Crocket of Leuzinger and Adam Hahn of Palos Verdes.   

In boys water polo, Palos Verdes seniors Charlie McBee and Erik Najarian were named Bay League co-Most Valuable Players and senior Matt Thornton of Mira Costa was named Most Outstanding Player. 

Rounding out the All-League first team are Josh Hutting and Justin Pratt of Mira Costa; James Robinson and Alex Ruzie of Palos Verdes; Nick Lopez, Andrew Martin and Connor Ryan of Peninsula; and Adam Rudow of Redondo Union.

The second team consists of Jimmy Bissell and Matt Grollm of Mira Costa, Liam Burke and Charlie Hargrave of Palos Verdes, Jim Blackwood and Charlie Wood of Peninsula, Skyler Ulrich of Redondo Union, and West Torrance goalie Christian Rahman.
