Updated: No Injuries After Ambulance, SUV Collide

"It was just like a movie!" says a child who was in one of the three cars involved in the collision.

Nobody appeared to be injured in a three-car collision that began when an ambulance headed northbound on Crenshaw Boulevard clipped a car going west on Palos Verdes Drive North on Monday evening in Rolling Hills Estates, according to witnesses.

The collision, which resulted in the closure of the left-turn lane, directly involved three cars, though a pole fell on a fourth vehicle.

Anthony Guzman told Patch that he was traveling westbound on Palos Verdes Drive North with a green light at about 5:45 p.m. when the ambulance, with lights and sirens on, heading northbound on Crenshaw Boulevard entered the intersection. He swerved, and the ambulance clipped him.

"Me swerving is what made me flip so hard," he speculated. His car flipped, hitting the pole holding the left-turn signal and a minivan with a family inside, and landed on its four tires facing the minivan. The pole fell onto a Honda Pilot waiting in the turn lane to go east on Palos Verdes Drive North.

"That pole was a lifesaver," said a passenger in the Honda Pilot.

According to a county fire department dispatcher, Guzman had to be extricated from his vehicle.

Guzman said that after the ambulance clipped his car, it kept going north on Crenshaw Boulevard; however, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the ambulance stopped to give its information before continuing.

City News Service reported that the private ambulance sustained minor damage.

"I'm just so glad that everyone's OK," Guzman said.
